#Ahwazna – Assad Salehi was transferred to notorious Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz

On August 4, 2014, Mr. Assad Salehi, 27 year old, Ahwazi Arab activist, holds a degree in chemistry from Shahid Chamran University, employee in Abadan oil refinery who was arrested on July 29, 2014 by security forces for visiting the homes of families of executed political prisoners has been transferred to the notorious Sepidar prison.

According to report of human rights activists inside Ahwaz, security forces caught Salehi in the streets as he was on the way back home and half hour later raided his father home. One day after his arrest Salehi was reportedly transferred to the prosecutor’s office in Ahwaz. According to his family, there are signs of physical torture on his body. The prosecution in Ahwaz has accused Salehi on the charges of inciting anti-government protest and disrupting public order.

Salehi along with a hundred other people had reportedly visited the homes of the families of executed political prisoners for the occasion of Eid al-Fitr (the day marking the end of Ramadan).

Prior to this arrest Iranian authorities had held Salehi in detention for six months, between winter 2013 and spring 2014, until a revolutionary court acquitted him of all charges.
